Rasmussen in control

Denmark's Michael Rasmussen laid down the gauntlet on a stirring Stage Eight which saw the Radobank rider swipe the yellow jersey from Linus Gerdemann, and put clear distance between himself and the other Tour contenders.

It was a day of casualties on the 165-km stage from Le Grand-Bornand to Tignes, with Mark Cavendish withdrawing from the race just 35km in.
