South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Anthony Turner loses bronze but still in contention for 100 kilo-plus class
Anthony Turner may have lost his bronze-medal match Thursday night at the Pan American Judo Tournament, but he remains in contention in the 100 kilogram-plus weight class.
The 28-year-old Miami native, who trains at the USA Judo National Training Site at North Miami and Institute of Human Performance in Boca Raton, lost to Jose Vasquez of the Dominican Republic in the medal round, 4-3 on penalties, at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.
Turner will try and qualify in his slot at the Olympic Zone Cup on Sunday. If he secures the U.S. slot, he will then have to compete at Las Vegas to earn his way on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. Read more
