BLOG POST
Green Bay State of Mind
I've decided to write this short blog post as a general summary of what many wisconsinites have been feeling towards this whole Brett Favre drama.
There were days long ago when I was a young boy loving a certain long running TV show known to all as "The Simpsons."
I recall getting very upset when local tv stations would break in for an hour of "Locker Room Live." As a young boy, I didn't care listening to news anchors talking about something I knew nothing about. Football was never my thing.
As time wore on, I started to wonder why they were taking the "Simpsons" away from me.
Then, my dad took me to my first Packer game and after seeing the fans go nuts for #4, I knew I was missing out. The "Simpsons" suddenly became not so important.
For so many fans, #4 has become their religion. It seemed like every mornings' talk around the water cooler had something to do with Brett. Millions in merchandise, millions in ticket sales, and millions of smiles. Favre brought much to the Green Bay community. He's done so much good in even my community, less than thirty minutes away.
Sadly, Favre chose to say goodbye to all the fans and the communities he's impacted. He has inspired so much goodwill over the years. He made it a practice of giving to his community, which in turn made others strive to do the same.
After being so gracious for everything he has done, why let a management issue negatively impact that community? What can New York offer Favre that Green Bay didn't? I can guarantee fans will never practice the #4 religion, other than the religion of buying #4 apparel.
As a Wisconsinite, I'm happy to say goodbye to someone who let the fame take over his life.
For the love of the game, I don't think so. I'm sure more Favre drama will be coming, tune in.
