Gulls and goals
This is the time of the season when it all comes together.
Title showdowns, Cup classics, relegation six-pointers - the business end.
And more often that not the games live up to expectations.
I think we should be in for a few treats, even over the next 48 hours.

Stats again
Following my last blog about stats, I heard another one yesterday :
More people participate or come in contact with football than every other sport put together.
Where do people get this stuff from?
And how would someone ever be able to quantify whether it was true or not?

Fishing for stats
I'm a keen fisherman and love the sport for so many different reasons, but I must admit to cringing when people reel out these stats about it being the UK's most popular participation sport.
Really?
According to what?
Maybe the biggest participation sport amongst fish.
How do people get hold of these stats. Amongst my fishing fraternity I probably know ten people, compared with twenty people who play football.
And most of those twenty know only one person who fishes - me.
And how do they qualify the term 'participates' anyway?
Isn't going down the park with my 4-year-old and kicking a ball around (badly) participating?
And they still think more people fish?
I guess the real point of this is that I don't want fishing to become ultra-popular, attract new entrants into the sport, because it's perfect the way it is, thank you.
And besides, there will be less fish to catch!

Long jump
I used to do a lot of long jump and triple jump as a youngster.
Too old for that now but remember this classic Mike Powell and Carl Lewis showdown.
Watch Lewis at the end, he's not happy, but what an effort by Powell to break not only Lewis' 10-year winning run, but the world record as well.
