Cycling in Tuscany
Quite one of the most breaktaking places I have ever been.
We stayed around Montepulciano, near to Siena, and spent some leisurely days touring around having pre-booked some adorable places to stay - from an old farmhouse to a former monastery.
If anybody is considering taking their bike abroad this summer, and you missed the Giro d'Italia, then get yourself off to Tuscany, because it really does have to be seen to be believed.
I'm absolutely gutted to be back!!

My route was roughly:
Venezia-Padova-Monselice-Rovigo-Ferrara-Bologna-Firenzuola-Firenze-Siena-Montepulciano-Sant'Albino-Perugia-Assisi-Spoleto-Terni-Orte-Roma (741 kms)
Highlights:
Good cycle paths (photos on my page), Very friendly people, fantastic food, godsmacking scenery, lots of road cyclists offering encouragement, Assisi, David (the statue not some random bloke!), Tuscany light, Chianti, oh and so much more, also...
1 km from the top of Passo della Raticosa the BBC phoned my mobile to tell me I made the shortlist for the British Cyclosportive Competition - wow!
Lowlight:
While sipping a chilled beer in the main piazza in Perugia the BBC phoned again. Martin won. Gutted!
p.s. I'd be more than happy to share accommodation suggestions if anyone wants to travel through Italy.
