Fishing - Derby

I was dragged along to a fishing open match the other day with a friend who was competing, and I must admit I hadn't previously realised how much fun it was.

I've pasted the Derby Evening Telegraph article below, otherwise it can be linked here :

Next event is on the 28th.

"Bright sunshine and a strong, cold wind made life difficult for anglers competing in the Long Eaton Thursday Anglers Affordable Open match.

All 11 anglers at Higham Lane caught with fishery owner John Varley leading the way with 29lb 5.5oz, taking seven carp on straight bomb-fished sweetcorn.

Runner up Roger Hill landed three carp for 10lb 7oz, ahead of Long Eaton Victoria's Ray Ketcher, who used method feeder.

Tomorrow's match will also be at Higham Lane.

The draw is at 8.30am and costs £10 per angler.

Following the success of the Thursday Affordable Open matches, anglers can fish at BW Makins for only £10 per entry from February 28. Draw for each will be in the Phase 1 car park at 8.45am, with fishing at 10am.

To book, contact John Adamson on 07749 284 823."
