Taylor reports justice
Good to see the Gods of fate smiling down on the JJB yesterday.
Great atmosphere at the game and Sibierksi should be ashamed, especially since it was Ryan Taylor the apparant offender, who has a history of matches with Newcastle littered with bad luck.
Anyway, justice was done through Filan and then Taylor exacted his own with a brilliant free-kick.
Credit to the Geordies for making the noise - but a couple more wins like that and we'll be safe as houses.

Jewell and the Frown
It's all very well people praising Paul Jewell for the way he went after Phil Dowd the other week, but it might have come back to bite him on the proverbial, as FA bigwigs were certainly in no mood to rescind the red card given to Fitz Hall, as reported in the news today.
I'm not saying they would have withdrawn the dismissal if Jewell had gone in slightly lighter on them, but his gung-ho approach can't have helped Hall's case.
Regardless, I'd rather have a manager who speaks up, and as much as Hall has looked lively when called upon, he seems to have lost his way a bit over the past couple of years and we have better performers.

Quick free-kicks
Well, we've seen tonight that something needs to be done about the ruling.
There's a clear advantage to the attacking team in so much as asking the referee if they can take the kick quickly is all fair enough.
But how are the defending team supposed to hear whether the ref has said yes or no - he's ten yards away.
Fair play for United for using it to their advantage, but look at the aftermath, and that can't be good for the game.

Football injuries
Kirkland's injury confirmation reminds me of how many injuries we do get in today's game.
Most are common but some bizarre, and thinking of goalkeepers I'm left to ponder Chris Wright's injury for Everton (I think) when he jumped into a sign left inside the goal at Chelsea on the warm-up to their Premiership match.
I believe the sign said,
"Please keep off the grass."
!!
I don't normally pretend a link to the Arsenal (especially after what happened at the Emirates last week), but here's an old piece on football injuries.

Predict the unpredictable?
People say dog racing is one of the most unpredictable sports to predict, because the slightest knocks or bumps basically kill a race.
My mate has launched some software which tries to help out, so sorry for the free advertising but here's some of his stuff for those interested in the sport :
"Greyhound Racing in the 21st Century affords 'greyhound punters' worldwide the chance to interactively bet on the dogs. This has created many new opportunities for all predictors of dog races, with newly promised increases in UK Super Jackpot payouts, live internet race betting facilities and the increasingly popular number of dog racing web-sites, never before has the dog racegoer experienced such a revolution in greyhound racing technology!
To start predicting your own future greyhound winners, I firstly however, recommend you aquire a good informative 'daily racing newspaper' with a full in-depth coverage of all today's or this evening's dog meetings, turn to the greyhound section and select a race you wish to predict!
"Greyhound Predictor Software" lets you predict dog races run over 3 middle-distance race lengths. These include: 515 metres = 563 yards, 500 metres = 547 yards and 480 metres = 525 yards. When choosing to predict a race, try selecting a race run exactly over or very close to any of these 3 distancess to obtain the best results!
Now start up Greyhound Predictor, double click the 'Crystal Ball' icon on your desktop.
If you haven't yet downloaded and installed Greyhound Predictor Version 2.0 then you can download a free trial. Initially you will be taken to the Information Boxes, click I Agree to start the program running. Please note: The Greyhound Predictor v2.0 trial version is 'free to try' before you buy!
Once the dog race simulator has loaded Press Spacebar to move through the information screens to Main Menu, from here you can select either Predictor, Betting, Gallery, Information or Options. I suggest, you start by selecting Options from the Main Menu.
Greyhound Predictor v2.0 offers a maximum 8 dog runners per race, by selecting the Option Menu you can alter the 'race settings' to the correct number of runners required and change any race length measurement into either 'metres or yards' or to enter a dog's racing weight in either 'kilos or pounds'!
Alternatively, you can pre-set your own race settings, by finding the Configuration Utility on your computer (Start - Programs - Greyhound Predictor v2.0 - Configuration) You may set any combination of the 'racetrack settings' mentioned above as the default mode of your choice. Each time you start up Greyhound Predictor both six or eight dog races run in metres or yards, kilos or pounds, will only then be saved for you!
Now are you ready to start predicting greyhound races?
From the Main Menu select 'Predictor' to navigate throughout, simply highlight your answer by using the Up/Down/Left/Right Cursor Keys situated on your keyboard, when you have selected your answer Press Spacebar to continue.
The 'Race Predictor' requires you to answer ten dog racing question categories for each selected dog runner. The first 3 questions however, always relate to each individual race set-up. Please read on."

Henman and his return
This week a lot was made of Henman's return and whether or not he would ever make it back to where he was.
The sad fact is that would the public care even if he did?
I work with a number of tennis juniors and these kids are the real heartbeat of the future of tennis.
Sad thing is it's Murray this Murray that, and maybe goes to show how much the image of tennis has developed in that even though he may be said to have personality (or PR) issues(!), he is more of a hero than I ever saw Tiger Tim being.
Now his comeback looks delayed as well I can't help but leave myself asking if he will ever get back to where he was, or whether his time has gone.
The BBC said this week :
"Cautious Henman delays his return .
Henman has a current ATP ranking of 38 Tim Henman has withdrawn from his comeback tournament in Marseille next week as he looks to make a complete recovery from a knee injury.
The British number two pulled out of last month's Australian Open but was aiming to make his first appearance since October in the south of France.
Instead, the 32-year-old has set his sights on returning at the Rotterdam Open which starts on 19 February.
Henman said: "My priority now is to be fully fit before I compete again."
Henman insists, however, that his decision is precautionary and he is generally satisfied with his recovery.
I just didn't want to rush back before I've had the chance to push my knee in practice
Tim Henman
He told his official website: "The good news is that my knee is now a lot better than it was before.
"I feel confident if there are no major setbacks then I'll be ready for Rotterdam.
"Unfortunately, I've been forced to delay my return to competition despite a vast improvement.
"I was hoping to play in the Open 13 in Marseille but I've decided to pull out.
"I've been practising this week and it's a case of so far so good, but I just didn't want to rush back on to the court before I've had the chance to really push it in practice.
"It's healing really well and I haven't felt any twinges so far, but I haven't been able to train on it as much as I would have wanted."
