Famous teammates: Lee Trundle

My sister went out with Lee Trundle for a while.

He loved his DVD's, even back then (or VHS, I suppose).

Viduka at the Toon

I'm just not sure Viduka in a Newcastle shirt is going to look right?

I know some Middlesboro fans who blame him for turning on us, and it's hardly like he's joining a team that has set the Premiership alight in recent years.

But for all his strength and power, he is definitely not the player he was a couple of years ago, and I think he may struggle with the number of other forwards that Newcastle have.

I just hope Southgate has got some ideas as to how to get some goals into our team, because if Yakubu goes through a dry spell we could be in real trouble I fear.

Cycling this weekend

Anybody off on any rides this weekend.

We're heading off to Cheshire for a bit of a leisurely weekend riding around Delamere Forest through Nantwich and out to the countryside.

Haven't done anything like this since the tail-end of last year, and with the weather looking as if it is going to behave itself, I can't wait for what should be a great excursion.

On the second day we're heading to Ellesmere and through North Shropshire - some truly stunning areas around there and lovely quaint pub stop-off's, naturally.

Anybody else got something special planned?

John O'Groats to Lands End sponsored ride

A friend of mine is one of four people looking to raise publicity for the end-to-end challenge.

If you have sponsorship, advice, or just any interest, please have a look at :

Cycle End 2 End

I know there are quite a few people on this site who have done the ride.

Newcastle United v Middlesbrough

They don't come much bigger than this for us.

Wondering how much the midweek extra-time and penalties (and journey back) would have taken out of the players.

We all know how woefully inconsistent Newcastle are, so I really believe this is going to be another one of those 'toss a coin in the air derbies'.

Looks like Emre has been a silly racist boy again so can only hope that upsets the camp a bit?

Back to the Cup

Having struggled to find a way past (and stay past) West Brom in the first game, it's a tough trip to the Hawthorns tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Having negotiated a pretty unsturdy route past Bristol City in the previous round, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this is a prelude to a superb Cup run that would end up at Wembley.

How many times have we seen it in the past where sides clambour through the early rounds - penalty shoot-outs, replays, the lot, and then end up winning the thing.

Can only hope it's a sign!

The simple things

Relieved to see Boro get back to doing the simple things this afternoon.

Despite the basic principles of Gareth Southgate we still tend to over-complicate I think at times, but there was an assured basicness about our performance today, and at last we gained revenge for that 3-2 defeat at the Madjeski on the first day of the season.

Interesting to see Jon Oster could his first Premiership goal in A DECADE today for the visitors, though the winning margin could and probably should have been greater by the end.

Job done though Boro, well done.

Yeah it's starting to look a bit tighter now and Arca has been the difference for me. He's doing what Zenden did a couple of seasons ago in working hard and creating in midfield. It's solid too with Cattermole and Boateng around him and Downing is creating everything for the front two. Too late for a Eufa place in the Premiership (unless we win about 8 of our last 10) but a good cup run would be fantastic. Credit to Gareth who has proved everyone wrong and has learnt a lot this year to take us into next season. It has always been Boro's way to develop local talent as we haven't the cash of the bigger clubs, and Gareth's appointment is an extension of that. Again credit to Steve Gibson, the best chairman in the Premiership.
