Gerdemann takes yellow jersey

Linus Gerdemann announced himself in spectacular style with a victory in the mountainous Stage Seven that handed the young German rider the overall lead of this year's Tour de France.

A new name to many, the 25-year-old emerged from a breaking group to establish the best win of his career.

Former leader Fabian Cancellara tailed off the back of the peleton and finished over twenty minutes behind the winer.

They say the Tour de France can't be won on a day like today, though it can certainly be lost.

Vinokourov and Kloden will be looking to prove their injuries aren't as bad as first feared as they tackle the fearsome Col de la Columbiere.
