Bouncing Czech

Tennis - Volatile American Andy Roddick has been at it again, this time driving an unstoppable first serve straight at Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus. The incident, which has sparked a fierce diplomatic row, occured in a Davis Cup match yesterday. The President, who reportedly has a 'history' with Roddick, opted to sit in the front row of the tie between the Czech Republic and the United States in Ostrava, in order to maximise the effect of his menacing stare which he intended to direct at Roddick in order to put him off. But he was stunned when Roddick hit a serve which bounced up and hit him true and square smack bang in the middle of his noggin on his way to a 6-4 4-6 6-2 6-3 win over Ivo Minar. "I didn't notice that," claimed Roddick sheepishly after the match. "It was nothing personal." Klaus responded by claiming that Roddick knew exactly what he was doing: "Mr Roddick knows he is being economical with the truth. I simply want to watch the tennis and he wastes no time in trying to kill me. It is unnacceptable. And to see his coach Jimmy Connors sniggering like that is unprofessional.
