Swindon 'til I die. Literally...

You may have heard about this lad, a guy called Andy Fitchett. He's been in the news loads, he's the guy that has terminal cancer, and instead of being depressed like most of us would be - he's trying to raise money for charity, enjoy his last moments - heck he3's even organising his own wake so he can say goodbye to his friends and family...
Quite what you'd say to a friend who's about to die I don't know, but that's for another time!
Thing is this guy's a Swindon fan - a lifelong fan, but what would you want to do before you went six feet under? What legacy could you leave your football club? Would you have a seat named after you? Maybe ask to be on the bench for a game and shout what you really think at the players?
What would you want to do before you croked, bearing in mind you've sweated blood and tears over the years, in this guy's case 44 years?

Why is it?

Why is it that you choose a team for life when you're too young to know any better, yet choosing a partner for life is the biggest decision ever?
I mean let's face it, I support Swindon Town. They're more Lisa Tarbuck than Eva Longoria!
So my dad supported Town, I had no choice. But this is a free world, a democratic life of our own decisions. Heck when I was playing for Crystal Palace (when I was 15) I could have chosen them - at least I would have seen Eric Cantona's kung fu kick...
Yet I made my decision early. My dad took me at a young age and I was hooked. Who wouldn't be? Tom Jones, Colin Calderwood and Fitzroy Simpson - Duncan Shearer, Dave Kerslake and Dave Mitchell. Legends.
Yet as I have grown up I have learned that as decisions go, perhaps mine wasn't the best. We're the fifth most stressful team to support allegedly, I'll never see them in Europe (oh how I wish I was there to see us take down Juve in 69/70) and they make me miserable more often than not. If they were a bird I would have dumped them. Buit I won't, ever, and that's my point.
What is it about our relationships with our football teams that are unbreakable? We'll quite happily give the missus the heave ho if she so much as parps under the covers, but if your team goes 10 games without a win? Ah, they'll turn it around!
It's a funny thing, being in love with Swindon Town. But for better or worse, richer or poorer - I do.
