About Penguin Waterpolo club

We are the leading water polo club in London, with men’s and women’s team playing in the top division of the national league, and with a strong masters’ swimming section.

Our club has a rich history. The men’s team has been in the top division for over 20 years, and during this time has won three British Championships and played regularly in European competition. The women’s team has been in existence for about ten years and has progressed up the leagues to be among the top four teams in the country. Among our current and former home-grown players are Ron Turner (a member of the world all-star team in the 1956 Olympic Games), Rick Ambidge (former NCAA player of the year for Cal Berkley), Nick Hume (UK and Australian international, now Performance Director for GB water polo), Jerome Read (Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and GB junior coach) and Karine Hales (also a Commonwealth bronze medallist), as well numerous former internationals. We have also had a series of top-quality international players playing for our men’s and women’s teams, and attract the best players to settle in London. For those looking for a more social water polo experience, we run another two men’s teams, a women’s second team and a junior team, and have regular social events.

Whatever your level, we are always looking for players, coaches or helpers who can play a part in taking our club forward. Our ambition is to build on our history and player base and to be consistently the best place to play water polo in the UK. With the Olympic Games coming to London in 2012, we also want to increase participation and interest in this great sport, especially among kids and young people.
