Under 10’s Potteries Mini Soccer League Division One
PSV Stone continued their unbeaten run to stay top of the league after gaining a further 6 points with 2 home victories over local rivals Stone Dominoes.
PSV were without their first choice ‘keeper and had to use outfield players as cover but the gamble paid off as clean sheets were kept in both games.
The first game ended with a goal less first half as both teams had few chances.
The 2nd half started brightly for PSV, Will Carney had a shot saved by the ‘keeper and a Louis Allison run ended with another save. The pressure eventually started to tell and after a strong run by Allison, the ball was delivered to Carney who made no mistake from close range to make it 1-0. PSV continued to push for the second and the best chance was created by Matty Welsh who hit a powerful shot that was well saved as the hosts clinched a narrow 1-0 victory.
The 2nd game was again close fought as a well organised Stone Dominoes side tried to stifle PSV. Will Carney broke away for PSV and was unlucky not to break the deadlock in the first half when one on one with the keeper, then Matty Welsh had another long shot saved but the deadlock was eventually broken by PSV’s Man of the Match Noah Longley who unleashed a thunderous long range strike from 25 yards that went straight into the roof of the net leaving the ‘keeper with no chance.
The final half started with goal scorer Longley in goal after both Allison & Jack Eagles had assisted earlier. PSV again started to dominate play and Carney & Luke Williams both went close. Dominoes worked hard to compete but were beaten for the second time after a run from defence by Allison ended in a shot that was deflected cleverly into the net by top scorer and arch goal poacher Jordan Ryan to complete a 2-0 win and extend PSV’s unbeaten run to 18 games.
