Club versus country row

Seems this is only going to escalate over the coming weeks, with the latest arguments surrounding FIFA and their payout to Newcastle United for Michael Owen's injury.

£50,000 a week towards wages is really not bad, and although United didn't get the £6m or so they (somehow) worked out the compensation to be, £1m is still £1m more than we would have received in the old days.

The Oulmers legal case in Belgium still rumbles on also, so it will be interesting to see what develops out of even more of these cases, because for certain they will crop up again.

Bergkamp genius

As much as it pains me to see anyone score against us, this was surely one of the best to have ever ended up in the Toon net.

Taylor reports justice

Good to see the Gods of fate smiling down on the JJB yesterday.

Great atmosphere at the game and Sibierksi should be ashamed, especially since it was Ryan Taylor the apparant offender, who has a history of matches with Newcastle littered with bad luck.

Anyway, justice was done through Filan and then Taylor exacted his own with a brilliant free-kick.

Credit to the Geordies for making the noise - but a couple more wins like that and we'll be safe as houses.

Sibierski's bad breath

As much as I was disappointed that my hero from last week - Solano - fluffed his lines from the penalty spot, I had to laugh at keeper Filan's excellent reaction to Sibierski when he confronted him for going down for what was admittedly a pretty soft penalty, infering Anto had bad breath.

If you'd seen it, you'll know what I was talking about.

At least Steven Taylor was man enough to admit the 5,000 travelling Toon army had been badly let down.

300 up for Solano

300 appearances for a club is a great achievement by any player in this day and age.

But by a foreigner, it is something to be marvelled out.

That's the achievement Nobby Solano is making tonight.

Still puzzles me why we sold him to Villa - a true Toon great if there ever was one.

Hairy ride

Funny to think what retirement does for footballers' barnets.

Shearer and Southgate - great England pals of old, being a good example.

Okay, Alan never had much anyway, but did you see him on Match of the Day on Saturday?!

Whereas Southgate, a fair mullet.

Seem to remember Carlisle legend Jimmy Glass growing his upon retirement too.

Well, what else was there to do?

The best pitch invasion. Ever.
