Transalp - the aftermath

Back home. still very tired. We ended up 139th out of about 280 mens teams. I would have qualified for masters (total age of team over 80) but Keith too young! I think including all starters we finished about 230 out of about 580 teams - so not too bad for first go.

im going to upload some photos later from my camera phone (keith's bounced out of his pocket - hopefully he will get it back as he had the time to take loads of pics of me on deaths door - a worthy reminder in case i start contemplating doing something like this again.

thanks for all the support from people that read the blog and send messages and for Bill for rining every day to check i was still breathing.

Trans Alp 2006

35 hours until I start what they call the hardest mountain bike race in the world. Have I trained enough asks Bill on an email just now as he tells me out of the 510 teams (of two) last year - only 260 managed to finish the 8 day event......

www.transalpchallenge.com

So I'm nervous - but theres nothing I can do about it now - bike and tons of gear is packed up and ready to go - off to Munich tomorrow and out to the start line by evening.

This site is picking up and so I've got a blackberry to try and deal with it if I manage to finish each day with some time - or indeed bale out and have a nice few days by Lake Garda waiting for my flight home.... - that wont happen...!

Weve had our largest number of new members join today - taking testing a stage further - also saw a few journalists who seem to like the site - we are on the right lines - if you spot any bugs please let us know - that's what we need to clean out of the site.

It's looking good - so thanks to people who have joined - if only i could say the same for my legs....

here we go - a diet of energy bars and gels for a week - great.

cheers

chris

Sounds like you are slowly beginning to enjoy it, although it could be like banging your head against a brick wall because when you stop it feels great. I hope you are at least enjoying the scenery ! if we do this next year, what are the chances of getting rice and other gluten free food.

etape 2006

photos coming soon, i hope, gentlemen. I concur with Lee's textmail congrats to Frank for his top 500 finish; as the fog clears it is more and more awesome.

Alpe d'Huez is getting steeper with each telling; the temperature is rising. And you lot are getting faster.
